6 of the Best Things to do in Nusa Ceningan, Indonesia

Nusa Ceningan is an island nestled between Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, other islands that make up the trio of Nusa islands just off of the southeast coast of Bali. These three islands are home to cliffs, stunningly blue waters, rugged roads and jaw-dropping scenic sites.

You won’t want to miss the Nusa islands on your Bali trip! Nusa Ceningan is the smallest by far and is easy to get to by foot or scooter from Nusa Lembongan. It is often overlooked but even a quick trip here will please you. From resorts with cliff side pools to white sand beaches, surfing, hammocks and cliff jumping, Nusa Ceningan is worth a stop!

How to Get to Nusa Ceningan

Nusa Ceningan is best accessed from Nusa Lembongan, where most people stay. There is a yellow bridge that connects Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan that can be crossed by foot or bike. You can get to Nusa Lembongan by either fast or slow boat and you can find all information in my detailed Nusa Lembongan guide.

From Nusa Penida, you can catch a local boat from the Toya Pakeh harbour. The ride is about 15 minutes and it costs 50,000 per person.

Getting Around Nusa Ceningan

Nusa Ceningan is so small that you could easily walk to all of the main attractions. However, the Indonesian heat will most likely be a bit much so I recommend renting a scooter to get around.

Bike rentals are 60,000 for a day. It will take you about 25 minutes max to drive across the entire island.

Nusa Ceningan Itinerary

Nusa Ceningan is so small that you don’t even need an itinerary. You can easily explore this island in half a day or take your time and relax on some of the beaches or at the resorts for a full-day.

Or you can visit Nusa Ceningan as a part of a day trip along with Nusa Lembongan.

Gawk at the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon has waters that are so incredibly blue that it will blow you away. It’s a small scenic spot, a cove, on the island where you can sit on the edge of the cliff and overlook the stunning waters below. Stop here for some epic pictures and if you have a drone you’ll be able to get some extra good ones!

Chill Out at Secret Beach

I’ll let you in on a little secret, Secret Beach is not so secret. But that doesn’t make it a bad spot to be. This beach is at the bottom of hill where a resort sits. You’re welcome to hangout at the resort pool if you purchase something overlooking the beach.

Or you can make your way onto the perfect, soft white sand. There are no lounge chairs here, just the sand and the water. It is not great for swimming but there is plenty of shade in the afternoon.

Get Adventurous, Try Cliff Jumping

Head over to Mahana Point where you can watch the surfers catching some waves and jump into the same waters from the cliff. There is a restaurant on the cliff and they will charge you to jump off of the lower jump but there is also a higher one off the side for you souls who love adrenaline.

The Mahana Cliff jump is 15m high and people have been injured doing this at low tide so be aware of the water level! There is also more cliff jumping at Blue Lagoon Cliff which is 14m high.

Go Ziplining

Soar across the cliffs and blue waters on a zipline on top of the island. The Abyss Zipline is located at the Ceningan Island Resort. The resort also has a cliff top pool and bar.

Kick Back at a Pool

There are many restaurants and resorts around Nusa Ceningan that have great views and are super laid back. Some great options are the Ceningan Island Resort where there is a cliff top pool, Driftwood Bar and Twilight Lembongan. The Sand doesn’t have a pool but it does have awesome hammocks right by the water!

Practice Some Yoga

Find yourself relaxing by the water at the Ceningan Yoga Shala. There are also yoga options on Nusa Lembongan for drop-in classes as well as yoga retreats!

Nusa Ceningan Accommodation

Nusa Ceningan may be a small island but it has some prime spots to stay with ocean views and it’s so peaceful.

Bali Essentials

There are a few things that you will absolutely need while in Bali.

Reef Safe Sunscreen: Yes, Bali has coral and yes, you should be wearing coral safe sunscreen. I’m not here to lecture you on saving the earth and plants, you know that already. This is just a friendly reminder that you can keep you and the waters safe.

Adapter: Obvi. But seriously people always forget. I like to use a universal adapter so if you don’t have one already get one stat and never worry about it again!

Reusable Water Bottle: This is an essential for ANY trip but even more important for Bali because recycling here is not really and thing and when you see the plastic littering this beautiful island you’ll be sad that you’re contributing to the plastic issue. You can fill up your reusable bottle everywhere, there are tons of filling stations at accommodations and restaurants.

Mosquito Repelling Bracelets: These are a thing? Totally! Mosquitoes can get nasty in Bali and unfortunately can carry diseases. This is the healthiest option because they don’t use deet!

Activated Charcoal: This is available in Bali too but when your tummy is not feeling so great and you may need to run to the bathroom at any second you’ll be happen it’s within arms reach. Bali belly (trust me) and these will help you get back to health and enjoying your vacay in no time.

Travel Insurance: Just don’t travel without it, end of story. But if you need more convincing read this.
