Mexico is a prime destination for yoga and is one of the best places in the world to practice yoga. With world-class teachers, paired with a fabulous destination, and a huge variety of training, Mexico is an ideal place to settle down for anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to dedicate yourself to learning more about yoga, whether that’s primarily for yourself or to eventually teach.
While doing a yoga retreat in Mexico is a wonderful idea, I highly recommend doing yoga teacher training in Mexico as doing your YTT (yoga teacher training) seriously deepens your yoga practice and is life-changing. Let’s dive into what kind of training you can find, shall we?
Why do yoga teacher training in Mexico?
Mexico is one of the top destinations for yoga in the world, along with other incredible places such as India, Bali, Thailand, and Costa Rica. Mexico’s big draw is its location in comparison to Canada and the US, which make it an easy place to do yoga teacher training from world-class instructors. The white-sand beaches, affordable accommodation, natural beauty, and culture invite many people here which is why it’s easy to find many yoga teachers here enjoying the laid-back beach vibe or tucked away in a sanctuary in the jungle. You’ll also have ample choices for trainings across the country and many teachers will come here to do yoga teacher trainings.

This YTT in Mexico is a great choice for those who are looking for a deep practice, for days that aren’t as long, and for those who like a bit more freedom with their food choices. While most trainings include food, this program could be cheaper as the base rate is lower since food is not included, which gives you plenty of choices for your diet during this course. Your days are shorter, from 6:30AM until 4:30PM which gives you a full evening to self-study, to explore the area, and take some me time (which is much needed during intense training such as YTT!).
It is recommended that you have practiced yoga for 2 years with 3 classes a week or are able to show your dedication to learning through this course. But as one of the most popular yoga teacher trainings in Mexico, it’s worth applying. Your training will include Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Karma yoga practices and combines elements of yoga practices which have been scattered across schools so you’ll leave with a pretty deep understanding of yoga overall.

A bonus with this course is that you will also learn about gut health and it covers trauma-informed yoga training so that your future classes are inclusive and a safe space for all people.
