The most precious thing I can take home with me from my travels are pictures. Pictures of the stunning destinations I’m visiting, pictures of myself with newfound friends, pictures of me posing in front of exotic backdrops, pictures of the new foods I’m trying.
I’m pretty positive that you won’t argue with me when I say that capturing your travels is important and that you’ll look back on your travel pictures as memories again and again after your trip is over. Pictures and the memories you have behind them and the place that they’re capturing are priceless.
But I am no professional photographer and I do, however, love having fabulous pictures of myself from my vacations (I mean, who doesn’t?). My photography skills don’t necessarily allow me to take great pictures of myself, especially when travelling solo, and while the fancy camera on my iPhone gives me the ability to capture better pictures with the portrait function, my pictures are still nowhere close to what a professional photographer can do.
So when I learned that there was a company that I could hire a vacation photographer from for almost anywhere destination in the world, I was pretty damn excited.
Introducing your new vacation photographer, Localgrapher
Localgrapher sums up what they do pretty well in their name alone, it’s local photographers. On your next trip you could have fabulous, professional-quality photos taken of you by a local who knows all the best spots in whatever city you’re visiting.
No longer will you have to spend hours researching where to get the best Insta pics, a local photographer can take you to the spots that haven’t become popular yet, know when the lighting is just right and will be able to give you a gift that you will cherish forever, your best travel photos.
With some of the best travel photographers in over 880 destinations worldwide, from Morocco’s blue city, Chefchaouen, to the beaches of Bali, to in front of the pyramids in Egypt, to the cobblestone streets across Europe, Localgrapher gives you the opportunity to have professional travel photos made into memories around the globe.
Why do you need a travel photographer?
Technically you don’t need one, but aren’t memories that last forever worth it? Personally, I got a personal travel photographer because I wanted high-quality pictures in one of my favourite places in the world, Canggu, Bali. I also wanted to use the pictures for this blog and wanted to step it up from my usual, amateur iPhone photography skills (if you can even call them skills). Plus I got a new profile picture out of it!
Some other reasons or occasions that you may use a Localgrapher for are:
- Solo travel
- Family portraits
- Destination weddings
- A couple shoot (so finally you can both be in the picture!)
- Fashion shoots
A few of my suggestions for the best times or places to shoot are:
- At a mountain setting
- At a beach setting
- At Christmas markets in Europe (my faves are in Vienna)
- At famous landmarks such as the Effiel Tower
- In destinations with beautiful fall foliage such as Lake Bled in Slovenia
- For a Christmas shoot
- In a tropical destination (think palm trees, big green leaves, etc.)

What you can expect from a Localgrapher shoot
About a week before I was due to arrive in Canggu, Bali I told Localgrapher which dates I would be available, told them which photographer I wanted to work with and gave them a number to contact me at.
Within a day I had the photographer contact me asking me what kind of shoot I wanted and told him the pictures would be for my blog and Instagram, sending him over a link so he could get an idea of what composition and colours I liked on my Instagram feed.
He was instantly able to suggest a place in Canggu that was great because it had the colours I liked, was right on the beach, had a pool and palm trees so I was able to get a huge variety of shots in just 30 minutes.
My photographer was very professional, easily guided me into poses and positions that were flattering and suggested props, in this case it was a coloured cocktail, that I could hold to make my pictures look more natural.
Before the shoot he also offered help for outfit choices and was able to make suggestions of what would or wouldn’t work.
I was very impressed with how quick and easy the whole process was, how efficient the photographer was so that I could get as many angles and locations in within a short timeframe and was blown away by the quality of the pictures.
I am extremely happy with the results. In one 30 minute shoot I was given over 40 high-quality pictures, most of which I absolutely adore.
How it works
Localgrapher has made hiring a photographer totally seamless and easy for you so there’s no added worry of doing something extra while planning for your trip.
It’s done in four easy steps:
- Pick your destination, date and photographer. You’ll be able to look through portfolios of photographers in the destination you’re going to and pick based on which photographers style you like best.
- Once the short form with your details is filled in Localgrapher will arrange it all for you.
- Feel like a freakin’ star during your photoshoot.
- Get your edited HD photos in 4 business days or videos within 2 weeks.
Then you’re ready to share your latest vacation shots with your friends, family and on social.
How you can book a Localgrapher shoot
Hop on over to Localgrapher and check out which packages they have available. Packages range in price and length of time from 30 to 100 minutes and suggestions are made as for which packages are best suited for whom. For example a 100 minute shoot is suggested for group shoots.
Custom packages, as well as videographers, are also available.
Without a doubt I know that I’ll do a shoot with Localgrapher again, in a destination that is truly epic. I’m thinking somewhere like Banff, Canada because of the mountains and insanely blue colour of the water or perhaps in South America once I make it over to that part of the world.
In an era where pictures are taken every day, why not treat yourself to an occasion where your pictures show just how amazing the destination is as well as you?
