Where is the best place to stay in Bali?

Some people prefer beaches, others culture, some want to visit Bali strictly for surfing, others for cocktails and nightlife, or to go chasing waterfalls. The best places to stay in Bali really depend on what you want. I break down which is the best area to stay in Bali below including the top sights in each area and what the area is most known for.

Where to Stay in Amed

Luxury: Mathis Lodge Amed

Nusa Lembongan

  • Best for beaches & relaxation

Nusa Lembongan is like a little getaway during your getaway. This small island is only a boat ride away from Bali’s east coast and is known for its diving, snorkelling, soft white sand beaches, and overall laid-back atmosphere. There are few things to do in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan (the even smaller island that is connected by a bridge) but the waters that are as blue as the Maldives are worth the visit alone.

Where to Stay in Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan is a small enough island that it doesn’t really matter where you stay as you’ll need to get around at some point so truthfully I wouldn’t stress too much about the location, but if you want to be in close to the action, Mushroom Bay is a top choice.

Luxury: The Acala Shri Sedana

Nusa Penida

  • Best for diving & scenic adventures

Nusa Penida is the largest of the three Nusa Islands by far and is packed with truly scenic spots. This island is built for adventure so if you don’t mind scooting around or sitting in a car for hours to see seriously beautiful locations, then do spend some time on Nusa Penida. It is most commonly done as a day trip from Bali or Nusa Lembongan, but it doesn’t cover anywhere close to all of the beauty of this island. One of the main things to do in Nusa Penida that draws visitors to it is the blue waters and the chance to snorkel with manta rays.

Where to Stay in Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is a large island and you will, no doubt, be adventuring across the island to see the best spots. That being said, the west side of the island has the more popular attractions and thus the Nusa Penida accommodation suggestions below are all on the northwest and west side.
