Best Area to Stay in Hvar

These are the best places to stay in Hvar. All of my suggestions below, however, are in Hvar Town since it is by far the most popular area to stay in and has the most options of Hvar hotels.

Hvar Town | Hvar Island

Hvar Town

BEST FOR: Being close to all of the action

Stay in Hvar Town if you want all the main attractions close-by and to stay in an authentic town, cobbled streets and all. It’s the main town for visitors on the island of Hvar and is one of two spots where ferries come in, yachts dock and all of the action is. The Pakleni Islands are easily accessible from here, the nightlife is here and beautiful beaches are only a stone’s throw away.

Stari Grad

BEST FOR: History and charming streets

Stari Grad literally translates to old town and is an all too accurate description, as it is the oldest town on the island of Hvar. Stay in Stari Grad to be close to the ferry dock for easy access. Stari Grad has a much quieter atmosphere compared to Hvar Town, is charming and plenty of tourists spot by so restaurants, shops, and more are readily available. The Stari Grad plain, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also here.

Hvar Town | Hvar Island

Jelsa

BEST FOR: Getting away from it all

Stay in Jelsa to see a charming area on Hvar that is perfect for those who just want to relax. Wineries and olive groves are close by for tastings, there are a number of secluded Hvar beaches and the area is surrounded by pine trees and the sea breeze.

Vrboska

BEST FOR: An authentic Dalmatian town experience

Vbroska is a small village on the island and used to once be a fishing town. Now it’s a quiet tourist spot where you can go to kick back, enjoy island life in quiet and take in stunning sea views of the Adriatic Sea.

Best Mid-Range Hvar Accommodation

Take a look at these Hvar hotels and guesthouses if you want to stay on a budget but still have privacy.

Pension Oaza

You can’t get a better location than Pension Oaza. This charming guesthouse is right in the heart of Old Hvar with the main cathedral only 50 metres away.

Each room has a balcony with beautiful views of Hvar and a terrace is available on-site for tanning or BBQing. The closest beach is only 200 metres away and guests can opt to enjoy meals in the garden.

All of the best bars and restaurants are within walking distance of the guesthouse. There’s no question why this charming accommodation is so highly rated.

Guesthouse Bracanovic

Guesthouse Bracanovic is another highly rated guesthouse that has just one apartment and one guestroom.

The location is ideal, only 200 metres from the centre of Hvar Town and the balcony provides views over the terracotta rooftops with mountains as the backdrop.

Each room is equipped with a kitchenette, dishwasher and is pet friendly.

Guesthouse Petra

Guesthouse Petra is the perfect spot for those on a budget, who want to be close to Stari Grad and love to cook for themselves.

These Hvar apartments each have a kitchen and the centre of town is only an 11-minute walk away.

Some of the rooms have terraces or balconies and there is a shared garden for all guests to enjoy.
