20 Root Chakra Affirmations for Grounding

20 Root Chakra Affirmations for Grounding

Focusing in on your root chakra through the use of affirmations is a simple, and often effective way to zero in on grounding. While the term grounding is often thrown around and not always understood, it is really what best describes what to aim for when life feels unbalanced and chaotic. When you feel like things are out of control, when you don’t feel secure or safe in your body or are feeling uneasy about life, or you’re struggling to find comfort as you are or in a new environment, is when it’s a good idea to focus in on grounding.

What is the Root Chakra?

The chakra most closely associated with grounding is, you guessed it, your root chakra, otherwise known as the first chakra, or Muladhara. The root chakra is connected to feeling safe, secure, comfortable, and accepting. This chakra connects us to the Earth and our sense of belonging. That’s why it’s the first chakra, and a necessary chakra to work on before focusing on the others; it’s our foundation.

The root chakra location is at the base of the spine, most often associated with the perineum, the space between the anus and genitals. The colour associated with this chakra is red and its element is fittingly Earth. The root chakra is also the chakra associated with men’s sexual energy, for women it’s the sacral charka, the next chakra up the spine.

Symptoms Associated with the Root Chakra

Chakras are believed to be energy centres that run up the spine from the base to the crown of the head and influence physical, emotional, and spiritual health which is believed by Hindu, Buddhist, and yogic philosophy, amongst others. These energy centres can become unbalanced or blocked and can cause symptoms mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Some of the root chakra imbalance symptoms are said to include:

  • anxiety
  • fear
  • greed
  • insecurity
  • negativity
  • restlessness
  • attachment

How to Use Affirmations for the Root Chakra

While many will claim that you say root chakra healing affirmations in order to heal, I think it’s important to note that affirmations are simply words. Yes, they can be powerful but do not rely on affirmations in order to heal fully.

The power of affirmations is through repetition. It’s basically like changing a negative repetitive thought into a more positive one. You may currently believe the negative thought because you’ve told yourself it so many times, but the more you repeat these affirmations the more likely you are to believe them and thus feel them.

Some studies claims that affirmations do work, other studies say elsewise. The best way to know if they work for you is to give them a try and there’s no harm in doing so!

A few ways you can use affirmations include:

  • Standing in front of a mirror, looking yourself in the eye and saying them out loud
  • Writing affirmations down
  • Repeating them in your head (setting a timer helps to do this!)
  • Set one as your intention for the day
  • Meditate on the affirmation, inhaling saying the first part of the affirmation, exhaling to say the second part
